Overview

Start your Santa Cruz afternoon the right way with AFK Food Tours.

In 2 hours, stroll the coast and hit four of the town’s most crave-worthy dessert spots in one perfectly paced small-group walk. You’ll enjoy samples + full scoops at every stop, so you’re not just tasting — you’re actually getting fed.

Skip the guesswork. This route is deliberately built for contrast: refreshing Italian ice, small-batch house-made ice cream, creative cookie sandwiches, and frozen specialties most visitors never find. Each stop earns its place. No filler.

The walk stays easy (under 2 miles) with ocean views and beach-town energy between bites. Your guide keeps it smooth with quick local insight, so you finish full, relaxed, and already ahead of the crowd. Group size is intentionally limited to keep it social and never crowded.

What to expect

  1. 20m
At this stop, you’ll visit a small-batch, from-scratch creamery that locals line up for. Everything is made in-house using seasonal ingredients, with flavors that rotate regularly — which means what you try here might not even be available next month.

This is where craft meets creativity. Expect bold fruit-forward scoops, deeply balanced cream flavors, and textures that feel noticeably fresher than mass-market ice cream. It’s the kind of place visitors rarely stumble into on their own — and one locals quietly protect.

Because flavors change with the season, every visit feels slightly different. That’s part of the fun. You’ll sample a few options first, then choose your own full scoop — so you walk away with something you genuinely love.
  2. 20m
Next up is a downtown cookie institution that’s been fueling Santa Cruz sugar cravings for decades. Known for baking oversized, gooey cookies throughout the day, this stop is all about warm, soft centers, crisp edges, and that unmistakable fresh-from-the-oven smell the second you walk in.

But this isn’t just a cookie stop. It’s where things get stacked. Think house-made ice cream pressed between two just-baked cookies — the kind of handheld dessert that requires both hands and zero regrets.

This spot brings pure nostalgia with serious volume. Portions are generous, flavors rotate daily, and the combinations feel almost unfair in the best way. You’ll sample first, then build or choose your own full dessert — so you leave with exactly what you’re craving.
  3. 20m
This stop brings you to a local neighborhood scoop shop known for generous portions and old-school charm. It’s the kind of place families grow up with — bright cases full of familiar favorites, rotating specialty flavors, and cones piled high.

What makes this one special is the balance: approachable classics done right, plus enough creative options to keep it interesting. Whether you lean chocolate-heavy, fruit-forward, or somewhere in between, there’s always a standout waiting.

You’ll sample a few flavors first, then lock in your full scoop — and this is usually where guests realize just how generous Santa Cruz portions can be. It’s relaxed, welcoming, and exactly the kind of stop that makes the tour feel complete.
