What to expect

Meet your friendly Newari host family at their traditional home in Kathmandu and begin with a warm welcome and an introduction to Newari culture and cuisine. Learn about the significance of Bara, a savory black lentil pancake, and Yomari, a steamed rice flour dumpling filled with sweet molasses (chaku) and sesame, two iconic festival delicacies enjoyed during special celebrations.

Under the guidance of a local home chef, you'll prepare the ingredients from scratch, learn traditional cooking techniques, shape Yomari by hand, and cook crispy Bara using authentic family recipes. You'll also make flavorful **Aloo Achar**, a spiced potato side dish, and **Kakro-Mula Ko Achar**, a refreshing cucumber and radish pickle with roasted sesame and aromatic spices.

Once everything is ready, sit down with your host family to enjoy the dishes you've prepared, accompanied by a glass of homemade Aila (Rakshi). Share stories, discover Newari traditions and festive customs, and take home authentic recipes, new cooking skills, and unforgettable memories of Nepal's rich culinary heritage.
