What to expect

Discover authentic Newari cuisine through a hands-on cooking experience guided by a local Newari home chef couple. Begin with a visit to a vibrant local market, where you’ll shop for fresh vegetables, spices, and traditional ingredients—just like a local. Interact with vendors, learn about seasonal produce, and gain insight into daily life in Kathmandu.

Continue to your hosts’ home and start your experience with preparing masala chiya (spiced Nepali tea). Then dive into hands-on cooking, learning traditional techniques, ingredient preparation, and the cultural significance behind each dish.

Prepare a variety of authentic Newari dishes including Yomari (sweet rice dumplings), Chhoila (spiced grilled buffalo), Aloo (spiced potatoes), Bodi (black-eyed beans), Achar (pickle), Saag (greens), Buffalo Intestine, Bhatmas (soybeans), and Bara (lentil pancakes).

End your experience by enjoying the meal you’ve prepared with the host family, accompanied by homemade Rakshi/Aila (traditional Nepali alcohol). This immersive experience offers a true taste of local culture, cuisine, and hospitality.
