  1. Ponte do Freixo is a road bridge that connects Vila Nova de Gaia to Porto, over the Douro River, in Portugal. Of the bridges that connect Porto to Vila Nova de Gaia, Ponte do Freixo is the one furthest upstream of the Douro River
  2. Ponte de Sao Joao
The São João Bridge is a railway infrastructure that transports the Northern Line over the Douro River, close to the city of Porto, in Portugal. Built to replace the already century-old Ponte D. Maria Pia, it entered service on June 24, 1991
  3. Ponte D. Maria Pia
The D. Maria Pia Bridge is a railway infrastructure, which carried the Northern Line over the Douro River, between the cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, in the North of Portugal. It was inaugurated on November 4, 1877[1] and was closed on June 24, 1991, having been replaced by Ponte de São João.[2] It is considered, along with the Garabit Viaduct, as the greatest masterpieces executed by engineer Gustave Eiffel.[3] At the time of its inauguration, it was the bridge with the largest iron arch in the world.[4] It has been classified as a National Monument since 1982.[5]
  4. Ponte Infante Dom Henrique
Ponte Infante Dom Henrique, also known as Ponte do Infante, is a road bridge that connects Vila Nova de Gaia to Porto, over the Douro River, in Portugal.
  5. Dom Luis I Bridge
The D. Luís I Bridge is a metal structure bridge with two decks, built between 1881 and 1886, connecting the cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia separated by the Douro River, in Portugal.
  6. Praca Da Ribeira
Praça da Ribeira is a historic square located in the neighborhood of São Nicolau, in the current parish of Cedofeita, Santo Ildefonso, Sé, Miragaia, São Nicolau and Vitória, in one of the oldest and most typical areas of the city of Porto, in Portugal.
The urban complex of Praça da Ribeira and the surrounding area has been classified as a Property of Public Interest since 1971.[1]
  7. The Arrábida Bridge is an arch bridge over the Douro River that connects Porto (through the Arrábida area) to Vila Nova de Gaia (through the Candal junction), in Portugal.

Since the 1930s, it was necessary to create alternative connections to the old bridges (D. Maria Pia and D. Luís bridges) in order to respond to the growing flow of road traffic.

At the time of its construction in 1963, the bridge had the largest reinforced concrete arch of any bridge in the world.
