  3. Nikko Tosho-gu
    1h · Admission ticket included
Toshogu Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the spirit of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder and first shogun of the Tokugawa Shogunate. Following his death in 1616, his remains were enshrined here, and the magnificent shrine complex was expanded in the years that followed. Many of the structures seen today have survived since the early Edo period.

Toshogu Shrine is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the "Shrines and Temples of Nikko," which also includes nearby Futarasan Shrine and Rinnoji Temple.

As you explore the grounds, you will be immersed in a world of intricate architecture, exquisite wood carvings, and vibrant colors. The shrine reflects both outstanding artistic achievement and the power of the Tokugawa Shogunate.
