Float face-to-face with wild green sea turtles in Akumal Bay, the Riviera Maya's most famous turtle sanctuary between Tulum and Playa del Carmen. No boat, no engine noise: you simply walk in from the beach into calm, shallow, crystal-clear water.
Your certified local guide fits you with a life jacket and snorkel gear, then leads your small group to the seagrass beds where the turtles come to feed. In about 45 minutes in the water you can watch them graze and glide up for air, spot stingrays resting on the sandy bottom and swim among colorful reef fish.
Akumal means "Place of the Turtles" in Mayan, and we keep it that way: no touching, chasing or feeding, always at a respectful distance.
All local fees are included, plus bathrooms, showers and changing rooms. No experience needed: life jackets are mandatory and your guide stays with you the whole time. Guides speak English, Spanish and French. Perfect for families (ages 5+), couples and first-time snorkelers.
Meet your guide at Super Market Chomak (Akumal General Store), at the entrance to Akumal beach. From Hwy 307 take the Akumal exit toward the beach. Please arrive 15 minutes before your start time, ready in your swimwear.
