Overview

Step out of the Tulum heat and into a hidden underground world. At Yaxmuul Cenote Park, 15 minutes north of Tulum, a local bilingual guide leads you to crystal-clear cenotes inside ancient limestone caves.

Begin with a short Mayan copal ceremony, asking the guardians of the cenotes for permission to enter. It's optional, but almost everyone joins.

Then comes the adrenaline: harness on, you rappel down a rock wall straight into a turquoise cenote. The park's trained team controls the rope and provides all the safety gear, so no experience is needed.

On the guided cenote tour (about 1.5 hours), float beneath stalactites thousands of years old while your guide reveals why the Maya saw these caves as gateways to Xibalbá, the underworld.

Admission, guide, rappel and life jackets included. Afterwards, stay until closing (9 AM to 4 PM). Most guests spend 2 to 3 hours.

Perfect for couples, families and nature lovers looking for a real cenote adventure near Tulum.
