Join your passionate and knowledgeable local guides on an inspiring tour of Melbourne's secret women’s history. Walk with us through the heart of the city from Lonsdale Street, through Chinatown and past Parliament before finishing at Melbourne’s Town Hall.

We’ll uncover the hidden history behind some of Melbourne’s most iconic landmarks, including the Princess Theatre, The Hotel Windsor and the Capitol, as well as some hidden gems including Casseldon Place, where the last cottage built in 1877 still remains, and the site of one of Melbourne’s most iconic queer cafes in the 1950s. This diverse, interesting and unique tour will leave you feeling empowered, entertained and inspired to learn more.

This tour is perfect for first time visitors, seasoned Melbournians and interstate travellers alike. Together we'll uncover some incredible stories of history-shaping women and you might even make a few new friends along the way!

We start at the Queen Victoria Women's Centre, the first hospital founded, staffed and run entirely by women in the Southern Hemisphere and one of Melbourne’s most iconic sites of women’s history.

We can’t talk about the history of Melbourne without talking about Chinatown! Learn about one of the 19th Century’s most iconic community builders.
Madame Brussels

Madame Brussels is one of Melbourne history’s most well known names. Find out how she came to have a lane named after her.

The tour begins next to the QVWC shop in QV square, behind the Queen Victoria Women's Centre. Your guide will be easy to spot in a pink She Shapes History shirt and tote bag.

End point

We'll finish the tour at Melbourne Town Hall. This is a 10 minute walk from where we began the tour.
