Pass by

Set between Genoa's medieval centre and its nineteenth-century expansion, Piazza De Ferrari marks the meeting point of two distinct sides of the city. Its sweeping fountain is framed by the opera house, the former stock exchange and Palazzo Ducale, reflecting Genoa's evolution from a powerful maritime republic to a modern commercial centre. Today, it remains one of the city's favourite gathering places, where daily life unfolds against a backdrop of remarkable architecture.
Palazzo Ducale
Pass by

Palazzo Ducale stood at the heart of power during the Republic of Genoa, serving as the residence of the doge for centuries. Its elegant courtyards and imposing façades recall a time when Genoa's influence stretched across the Mediterranean. Your host will share the stories behind this remarkable landmark from the outside. Tickets to enter are not included.
Pass by

With its striking black-and-white striped façade, sculpted portals and marble lions, the Cathedral of San Lorenzo is one of Genoa's most distinctive landmarks. Built over several centuries, it reflects both the city's religious devotion and the extraordinary wealth created through maritime trade. Your host will reveal the details, symbols and legends woven throughout its remarkable exterior.
Pass by

Genoa's true character is found within the caruggi, the maze of narrow medieval lanes that forms one of Europe's largest historic centres. Tall buildings lean towards one another above streets once filled with sailors, merchants and craftspeople. Hidden courtyards, family-run businesses and quiet squares appear unexpectedly, revealing a city that has preserved its distinctive character while remaining vibrantly lived in.
Piazza Banchi
Pass by

Piazza Banchi offers a fascinating glimpse into Genoa's commercial past. Money changers, bankers and merchants once gathered here beneath the Loggia dei Mercanti, while the unusual Church of San Pietro was ingeniously built above a row of shops. Few places illustrate the close relationship between commerce, religion and daily life as vividly as this historic square.
Pass by

Via Garibaldi provides a striking contrast to the intimate medieval lanes nearby. Created during the Renaissance as one of Genoa's prestigious Strade Nuove, it became home to the city's wealthiest noble families. Grand palaces, elegant courtyards and richly decorated façades still reflect the ambition and prosperity that made Genoa one of Europe's great trading powers.
Palazzi dei Rolli
Pass by

The Palazzi dei Rolli introduced one of Europe's most remarkable systems of official hospitality. Rather than building a royal palace for distinguished visitors, Genoa selected its grandest private residences to host ambassadors and dignitaries according to their status. Your host will bring these extraordinary palaces to life from the outside. Tickets to enter are not included.
Spianata Castelletto
Pass by

High above the historic centre, Spianata Castelletto offers one of Genoa's finest panoramic views. Slate rooftops, church towers, elegant palaces and the busy harbour spread out below, revealing how closely the city has always been connected to the sea. Depending on your interests and available time, your host may suggest taking Genoa's historic public lift to reach this spectacular viewpoint.
Pass by

The Porto Antico reconnects Genoa's historic centre with the waterfront that shaped its identity for centuries. Once the heart of maritime trade, it has evolved into a lively public space while remaining closely linked to the city's working harbour. As you stroll along the waterfront, your host will share how the sea continues to influence Genoa's culture, economy and everyday life.
