What to expect

Starting at the Giardini di Piazza Indipendenza, you'll open the Explorial app, enter the 6-digit game code that you received by text and Viator chat message, and march into the historic centre. The tour is fully self-guided — no guide, no fixed start time, just your group and the city.

Porta Nuova opens the game — the triumphal gate built to celebrate Charles V, its facade guarded by four towering turbaned figures with a story riddles love.

At the Fontana Pretoria, trivia explains why scandalised locals dubbed this masterpiece of nude marble the 'fountain of shame'.

Then the Palazzo dei Normanni commands attention: Norman palace, royal court and today Sicily's parliament, hiding the glittering Palatine Chapel within.

Roughly two hours of arabesques and alleyways later, the final scores appear. Street-food stalls stand ready for the victory feast.
