Overview

Ignacio Garcia painted a 40-foot woman to honor the women who raised him. Joe Pagac hid desert creatures in a cycling mural. An Irish artist flew to Tucson to paint a single face on a crumbling wall.

Downtown Tucson is an open-air gallery that changes every season. On this one-mile walk, your local guide introduces you to the artists by name: Ignacio Garcia's La Mujer Empoderada over Congress Street, Fin DAC's Vergiss, Joe Pagac's El Tour de Tucson, Rueben Moreno's Las Tres Hermanas, Danny Martin's Jackie Daytona and the pieces tucked into Rialto Alley from the Rock the Spot graffiti festival.

Our guides know which pieces just went up, which artist is working on the next project, and the stories only locals hear. Freaky Foot Tours is mother and son owned, with five generations of Arizona roots and 2,000+ verified reviews.

Flat downtown sidewalks at an easy pace; bring water and sun protection. Great for art lovers, photographers and anyone who wants to see Tucson in full color.

What to expect

  1. 191 Toole
    7m
History: The Rialto was built by William Curlett & Sons, who also built the Congress Hotel. The theatre opened in 1920, hosting vaudeville acts, live performances and showing some silent films. It was bought by Paramount-Publix in 1929 and began showing talkies– becoming a mainstay in downtown Tucson entertainment for several decades.
  2. 7m
History: This powerful mural is said to be a gift to downtown from LoveBlock Partners, who also own the Little Love Burger, HUB restaurant and the AC Hotel.
  3. 7m
History: Built in 1937 by A.C. Rosewell for two businessmen, this building is now on the National Register of Historic Places. Before becoming apartments, a car dealership and the Hotel Lewis were tenants.
  4. 7m
Desert Soul by El Mac, painted in 2020 and commissioned by Cobra Arcade owner Arial Bracamonte. The figure holding the saguaro blossom is based on the artist's wife. El Mac has painted downtown Tucson walls since the 1990s.
  5. 191 Toole
    7m
History: Garcia painted this large vibrant mural of a woman playing a guitar over another famous mural he’d imagined. In 2016 the muralist had painted NBA legend Bill Walton hanging onto a mythical jackalope that was bucking the superstar around the Rialto’s wall.
