Overview

When the sun sets, Rome turns into a different city: golden monuments, quiet piazzas, and the Colosseum glowing against the night sky. This open-top panoramic bus tour takes you through it all in one complete loop of about 75 minutes.

Board at Termini Station, put on your headphones, and let the audio guide tell the stories of the Eternal City while the illuminated landmarks roll by: the Colosseum and the Imperial Forums, Piazza Venezia and the Vittoriano, the Tiber embankments with Castel Sant'Angelo and the dome of St. Peter's, then Piazza del Popolo, Villa Borghese and Via Veneto.

No intermediate stops, no walking, no dinner commitment — just Rome, lit up, from the best seat in the city. A hostess is on board throughout, and the upper deck can be covered in case of rain, so the tour runs in all weather.

Two departures every evening, Tuesday to Saturday, April to November; your departure time is shown on your booking.

Run by Trips to Rome, the ticket office at Termini since 1918.

What to expect

  1. Colosseum
    Pass by
The bus passes right alongside the Colosseum, fully floodlit after dark. From the open top deck you get an unobstructed view of the arches and the upper tiers — no crowds, no queue, no walking. The audio guide tells the story of the amphitheatre as you pass.
  2. Arch of Constantine
    Pass by
The triumphal arch of Emperor Constantine stands right beside the Colosseum, brightly lit at night and clearly visible from the open top deck as the bus passes.
  3. Fori Romani
    Pass by
The bus runs the length of Via dei Fori Imperiali, with the Imperial Forums and Trajan's Column on one side and the archaeological area of the Roman Forum on the other, all lit up after dark.
  4. Circo Massimo
    Pass by
The vast open space of the ancient chariot racing track, with the Palatine Hill and its ruins rising behind it, seen from the open top deck.
  5. Piazza del Campidoglio
    Pass by
Michelangelo's square and the staircase leading up to it, lit up at night, seen from the bus as it passes the foot of the Capitoline Hill.
  6. Altare della Patria
    Pass by
The Vittoriano's white marble is floodlit after dark and towers over Piazza Venezia — one of the most striking sights of the tour, best seen from the open top deck.
  7. Piazza Venezia / Ancient City
    Pass by
Rome's busiest crossroads, dominated by the white marble of the Vittoriano. The bus passes through the square with Palazzo Venezia on one side and Via del Corso opening up ahead, all lit up at night.
  8. St. Peter's Basilica
    Pass by
Michelangelo's dome seen from the open top deck as the bus approaches the Vatican side of the river — one of the best views of St. Peter's after dark.
  9. Castel Sant'Angelo
    Pass by
The bus runs along the Tiber with a full view of Hadrian's Mausoleum and the statues of Ponte Sant'Angelo, lit up against the night sky.
  10. Tiber River
    Pass by
The bus follows the river embankments, with the bridges and the domes of the historic centre reflected in the water after dark.
  11. Piazza del Popolo
    Pass by
The great neoclassical square with its Egyptian obelisk and twin churches, framed by the Pincio terrace above and lit up in the evening.
  12. Villa Borghese
    Pass by
The bus skirts Rome's largest central park, with its tree-lined avenues and the terraces overlooking the rooftops of the city.
  13. Via Veneto
    Pass by
The elegant curving avenue of Rome's dolce vita years, with its grand hotels and pavement cafés still busy in the evening.
  14. Piazza Barberini
    Pass by
Bernini's Triton Fountain at the centre of the square, floodlit at night, with Via Veneto climbing away from it.
  15. Piazza della Repubblica
    Pass by
The wide colonnaded square with the Naiads Fountain at its centre and the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, a short walk from Termini Station.
  16. Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore
    Pass by
One of Rome's four papal basilicas, its facade and bell tower lit up at night. The later departure ends here, in Piazza dell'Esquilino.
