Overview

This tour combines the remains of the largest Roman theatre north of the Alps, the oldest Roman monument in Germany and possibly one of the most atmospheric museums in Germany, the Sanctuary of Isis and Magna Mater. Together these three highlights will give you a good understanding of the life and times of the Romans nearly two thousand years ago.

    Located under a shopping mall in the city centre is the well-preserved Sanctuary of the Roman Temple of Isis and Magna Mater. The ambient lighting contributes to the atmosphere of this archaeological area and we are transported back to an ancient and distant world. Follow the see-through trail above the excavations and marvel at the well-displayed and diverse objects discovered at the site such as the spellbinding curse tablets.
