What to expect

Day 1: FES - AZROU - MIDELT - ZIZ VALLEY - MERZOUGA
  1. Fez
    1h
Following breakfast, we will come to where you are staying to pick you up and then continue our journey to Merzouga through Midelt and Errachidia further to the south.
  2. Ifrane
    2h
Your journey will begin in the city of Ifrane, also known as "the Switzerland of Morocco." From there, you will continue on to Merzouga by way of Midelt and the Ziz Valley. Throughout the course of this excursion, you will have opportunities to catch sight of both the Middle Atlas and the Higher Atlas mountains. A stop will be made in the well-known cedar forest, which is Morocco's largest, and it is here that you will get the opportunity to encounter Barbary apes.
  3. Midelt
    2h
As you get closer to the province in the southeast, the city of Errachidia, you will notice that the landscape starts to shift, and you will begin to see signs of the desert. Following lunch in Midelt, you will continue your drive along the marvelous Ziz Valley, pausing often to take in the breathtaking vistas along the way.
  4. Merzouga
    3h
We will travel by car via Berber villages to reach Erfoud, and then continue on to Rissani, which is the origin of the Alaouite dynasty and is home to Morocco's current ruling royal family. When you get to Merzouga at the end of the day, you'll be greeted with a glass of mint tea and then shown to your room at our riad (dinner and breakfast).
Day 2: MERZOUGA CAMEL TREK AND OVERNIGHT IN THE DESERT CAMP
  1. Merzouga
    1h
Following breakfast at your riad, we will continue our vacation from Fes by traveling to Merzouga to explore the desert there.
  2. Khamlia
    2h
You will travel to the village of the Gnawa people, who are originally from Mali, Senegal, and Sudan. While you are there, you will learn about the music that they play as well as the lifestyle that they lead. After that, we will take a road trip through the desert to see some nomad households and learn more about their way of life.
  3. Merzouga Desert
    4h
With a local family, we will eat a traditional dish (Berber pizza) for lunch. You will also have the option to visit the ancient city of Rissani, the origin of the Alaouite dynasty, Morocco's current governing royal family. Rissani is bordered by around 360 ksars (fortified villages with numerous towers) and has a large souk (open market) that is held three times every week. Once known as Sijilmassa, this was the meeting location for salt caravans traveling from Mali's Tombouctou. Here you will traverse the souk, which sells spices, vegetables, and clothing. After that, we will return to the settlement of Merzouga via vehicle. In the afternoon, you will ride a camel accompanied by an expert camel man to discover what is hidden in the midst of Morocco's tallest sand dunes. In front of the tent where you will spend the night, dinner will be served.
Day 3: MERZOUGA - TODGHA GORGES - DADES VALLEY
  1. Merzouga
    3h
Our camel-guide will wake you up early in the morning to witness what may be the spectacular sunrise of your life. After that, you will return to the hamlet of Merzouga through a calm camel walk. The stunning Erg Chebbi dunes, whose appearance varies as the day goes and with the light, are a must-see on route.
  2. Todra Gorge
    2h
After a shower and breakfast at the riad, you will go for the highest and narrowest gorges in Morocco: Rissani, Tinghir, and Todgha. Here, you will have the choice of a one-hour stroll in the valley, during which you will meet people and learn about the culture and geography.
  3. Dades Gorges
    2h
The excursion then continues from Fes to the Dades Valley, where you will witness the magnificent sand castles and "monkey feet" rock formations. Our lodging will be a luxurious inn with dinner and breakfast.
Day 4: DADES VALLEY - KASBAH AIT BENHADDOU - MARRAKECH
  1. Dades Gorges
    1h
This morning, we continue our journey from Fes to Marrakech through the Dades Valley, Ouarzazate, and Marrakech. The journey through Dades Valley is known as the way of a thousand Kasbahs, affording ample opportunity to capture some of the trip's finest photographs.
  2. El Kelaa M'gouna
    1h
You will stop in Kalaat M'Gouna, the heart of rose valley, where you will have the chance to visit the rose cooperative and purchase rosewater, which will keep your linens smelling fresh long after your journey is complete.
