Oloolua Nature Trail makes for an easy and refreshing half-day trip from Nairobi. A good itinerary is to leave the city around 8:00 AM so you can arrive in Karen by about 9:00 AM before the trails get busy. Once you enter the forest reserve, you can spend the next two to three hours walking the approximately 5 km loop trail at a relaxed pace. The trail passes through indigenous forest, bamboo sections, small bridges, a river, a cave, and a scenic waterfall that is one of the highlights of the walk. The terrain is generally easy and beginner-friendly, making it suitable for casual hikers, couples, families, or anyone wanting a quiet nature escape without leaving Nairobi.
After finishing the walk around midday, many visitors stay a little longer for a picnic or to relax in the shaded resting areas. You can then head to nearby Karen for lunch, with popular spots including Talisman or the restaurants at The Hub Karen.
Your driver guide will come to pick you up at your hotel lobby within Nairobi.
