What to expect

    Travelers will experience the spectacular Shira Plateau on Mount Kilimanjaro, one of the mountain’s most scenic high-altitude landscapes. After an early morning pickup, travel by 4×4 through the western side of Kilimanjaro to the Shira Plateau.

    Once there, enjoy a guided hike across open alpine moorland, volcanic landscapes and unique high-altitude vegetation. Depending on weather and trail conditions, the hike may continue toward Shira 1 Camp and Shira Cathedral, with beautiful views across the plateau and toward Kibo, Kilimanjaro’s highest peak.

    Along the way, your guide will share information about the mountain’s geology, vegetation, wildlife and local environment. There will also be time to stop for photographs and enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by the dramatic mountain scenery.

    After the hike, return by 4×4 and finish the experience with drop-off at your hotel in Arusha.
