The trail starts at Ribeira Funda, on the north coast of São Miguel Island. Start by walking through a forest of cryptomeria and exotic vegetation, where you may have the chance to spot some bird species. Along the way, you will be in touch with nature and will pass numerous watermills and their levadas and several waterfalls.
Cross the stream and continue the walk along which you can enjoy the panoramic views over the north of the island. Follow the trail that will take you to the beautiful waterfall next to Viola beach. Take the opportunity to explore the various mills in the area without forgetting to enjoy the beach with its volcanic sands. With the local guide, you will learn about various stories and memories reflected in photographic and information panels about the customs of our ancestors.
Continue the trail through the coastline to the parish of Maia where you can enjoy a picnic lunch. After a short break, visit the Santa Iria viewpoint for an unforgettable view of the north coast and the Ponta do Cintrão. To finish, visit the main attractions of the Ribeira Grande city.
