Overview

Discovering the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, the only papal basilica dedicated to the Virgin Mary, is a unique experience in the heart of Rome. With an audio guide available in multiple languages, explore the magnificence of the golden ceiling, made with gold from the Americas, and the Cosmatesque floor. See medieval mosaics, including the masterpiece of the Coronation of the Virgin. Access exclusive locations such as the Lodge of Blessings and the Hall of the Popes, and learn about the story that led Pope Francis to choose to be buried here. The Basilica is also custodian of the Holy Door of the Jubilee, a symbol of faith and art.
