Day 2: We leave hotel at 8.00 am off and continue to visit our tour program in the following:
  1. Preah Khan Temple
1h · Admission ticket not included
Preah Khan was built by Jayavarman VII and probably served as his temporary residence while Angkor Thom was being built. The central sanctuary of the temple was dedicated in AD 1191.

A large stone stela tells us much about Preah Khan’s role as a centre for worship and learning. Originally located within the first eastern enclosure, this stela is now housed safely at Angkor Conservation in Siem Reap. The temple was dedicated to 515 divinities, and during the course of a year, 18 major festivals took place here, requiring a team of thousands just to maintain the place.

Preah Khan covers a very large area, but the temple itself is within a rectangular enclosing wall of around 700m by 800m. Four processional walkways approach the gates of the temple, and these are bordered by another stunning depiction of the Churning of the Ocean of Milk, as in the approach to Angkor Thom, although most of the heads have disappeared. From the central sanctuary, vaulted galleries extend in the cardinal directions. Many of the interior walls were once coated with plaster that was held in place by holes in the stone. Today many delicate reliefs remain, including rishi and apsara carvings.
  2. Neak Pean
40m · Admission ticket not included
    The small island temple.
Neak Pean, “the entwined snakes” is a small temple located on an island in the center of the now dry Jayatataka baray, a water reservoir 3,500 meter long and 900 meter wide. Initially dedicated to the Buddha, the temple was rededicated to Lokeshvara, the Bodhisattva of compassion.

Much of the temple area is flooded during the rainy season. A wooden walkway over the waters leads to the central sanctuary, which is fenced off to protect it from further decay.

The Neak Pean was cleared from jungle vegetation in the 1920’s and 1930’s. Restoration works have been carried out using the anastylosis method in the late 1930’s.
  3. Ta Som
40m · Admission ticket not included
The fig tree overgrown on the eastern gate.
Ta Som is a captivating and charming temple. It was built in the Bayon style and has been well restored. Like Ta Prohm, there is a tree growing through part of the structure which provides excellent photo opportunities.
  4. Eastern Mebon
40m · Admission ticket not included
An island Hindu temple made from clay brick
  5. Banteay Srei
1h · Admission ticket not included
The most beautiful carving temple made from pink sandstone and is known as Citadel Of Women
  6. Banteay Samre
40m · Admission ticket not included
The small Hindu temple in beautiful ambiance.
  7. Pre Rup
1h · Admission ticket not included
The quiet temple for sunset spot
