Overview

The Arctic Explorer pairs a 2.5-hour icebreaker cruise with a self-guided onboard E-Guidebook in 16 languages. When conditions are safe, the cruise stop includes walking on the frozen sea and floating in icy water in a thermal survival suit. Choose Own Transport or a round-trip shuttle from Rovaniemi, Kemi and Tornio, or Luleå.

Own Transport

Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes
Meet at Axelsvik terminal: Make your own way to the Arctic Explorer terminal at Axelsviksvägen 291C, 952 95 Båtskärsnäs, Sweden. Arrive at least 30 minutes before departure. Transport to and from the terminal is not included. Cruise departure times use Swedish local time.

Luleå Shuttle

Round-trip shuttle from Luleå: Includes round-trip shuttle transport between Clarion Hotel Luleå and the Arctic Explorer terminal in Axelsvik. Pickup and return times are in Swedish local time.

Kemi and Tornio Shuttle

Duration: 6 hours

What to expect

Board the Arctic Explorer at Axelsvik in Swedish Lapland for a 2.5-hour icebreaker cruise through frozen sea ice. Explore the ship at your own pace with an onboard E-Guidebook while the local crew takes care of safety and the onboard experience.

During the cruise stop, step onto the frozen sea when conditions allow. You can also put on a thermal survival suit and float in the icy water. The crew makes the final decision on all ice activities based on ice thickness, sea conditions and safety.

Warm up with a hot drink on board. At the end of the cruise, receive a Cruise & Swim Certificate signed by the Captain.

Bring a passport or national ID card. Wear warm clothing and winter boots.
Ice walking and floating depend on ice thickness, sea conditions and the crew's safety decision.
