What to expect

  1. Piazza del Duomo
    30m
From the Leica Store, we walk into Piazza del Duomo, the heart of Milan. With the cathedral's marble facade as your backdrop, you'll learn how to work a busy square: picking a strong frame, waiting for the right person to step into it, and turning a crowd into a clean, intentional image. It's one of the most photographed places in the city, and you'll leave with a version of it that feels like yours.
  2. Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II
    30m
Next, we step into the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Milan's 19th century arcade under a glass and iron dome. The symmetry, the mosaic floors, and the soft light falling through the glass make it an ideal place to practice composition and leading lines. You'll also watch visitors spin on the famous bull mosaic for good luck, a small ritual that repeats every few seconds and gives you endless chances to practice timing.
  3. Piazza Cordusio
    15m
Our next stop is Piazza Cordusio, an oval square lined with grand palaces from the late 19th and early 20th century, with trams passing through the middle. The curved facades and constant movement make it a great place to practice framing people against strong architecture. We'll also take a short break and step inside the Starbucks Reserve Roastery, set in the city's historic post office palace, for a quick look at the copper roaster and the warm light inside before we continue.
  4. Piazza Affari
    15m
A few steps away, we reach Piazza degli Affari, Milan's financial square, dominated by Palazzo Mezzanotte, home of the Milan Stock Exchange. In the middle of the square stands Maurizio Cattelan's L.O.V.E., a giant marble hand with one finger raised, facing the Stock Exchange. It's one of the most talked about pieces of public art in the city, and a great place to explore how a photograph can carry a message. You'll experiment with angles that frame the sculpture against the building behind it.
  5. TASCHEN
    15m
We then visit the TASCHEN Store, the publisher's first shop in Italy, spread across two floors and furnished with Italian design pieces from the 1950s. I'll take you through the photography section and show you the books and photographers that shaped how I see the street. You'll leave with new names to follow and a clearer sense of the style you want to work toward.
  6. 15m
Just down the street on Corso Magenta, we pass the original Pasticceria Marchesi, one of Milan's oldest pastry shops, serving the city since 1824. Its elegant windows, filled with pastries, chocolates, and panettone, make a beautiful subject for practicing reflections and layered compositions. If you'd like something sweet, this is the moment to step inside.
  7. Basilica di Sant'Ambrogio
    15m
Leaving the busy center behind, we reach the Basilica di Sant'Ambrogio, one of Milan's oldest churches, founded in the 4th century. Its Romanesque courtyard, lined with brick arches, is quiet and full of texture. You'll use the arches as natural frames and work with light and shadow to create calm, timeless images.
  8. Ticinese
    15m
Our next stop is the Ticinese neighborhood, where Milan's everyday life happens. Around the Roman columns of San Lorenzo, you'll find students, trams, vintage shops, street art, and small cafés, all within a few blocks. This is where we focus on candid street photography, and I'll show you how to photograph people naturally without interrupting the moment.
  9. Navigli
    30m
We continue to the Darsena, Milan's historic port, transformed in recent years into one of the city's favorite places to meet. The waterfront promenade, the street art, and the mix of old and new architecture give you plenty to work with.

We end the walk along the Navigli canals, known for their historic buildings, bars, and small artisan shops. As we wander along the water, you'll capture reflections of colorful facades and boats, and the life of the neighborhood around you. Before we say goodbye, we'll look through your favorite frames together so you leave knowing what worked and why.
