The Rare Red Colobus Monkeys

Jozani Forest, located in Zanzibar, Tanzania, is one of the few places in the world where you can encounter the endangered Zanzibar red colobus monkey (Piliocolobus kirkii). These primates are endemic to Zanzibar and are known for their striking red fur and unique social behaviors. Unlike most monkeys, they are not shy around humans, allowing visitors to observe them up close. The forest provides a critical habitat for these monkeys, with an estimated population of only around 5,000 individuals, making Jozani a vital conservation site.

Mangrove Ecosystem and Boardwalk.

Jozani Forest is also home to a fascinating mangrove ecosystem, which can be explored via a wooden boardwalk. This part of the tour offers a unique opportunity to learn about the ecological importance of mangroves, which act as natural water filters, protect coastlines from erosion, and serve as nurseries for marine life. The boardwalk allows visitors to walk through the mangroves without disturbing the delicate environment, providing an immersive experience while promoting sustainable tourism. This combination of terrestrial and marine ecosystems makes Jozani Forest a truly unique destination.
