Overview

Prison Island also known as the Changuu Island lies about 30 minutes by boat from the Unguja Isand. The Prison area was never used to house prisoners, it was used by an Arab slave trader to contain the more troublesome slaves he had brought from the African mainland. The prison ended up being used as a quarantine center, instead of a prison for yellow fever epidemics that once raged the region. In 1919 the British governor of Seychelles sent a gift in form of four Aldabra giant tortoises to Changuu. Presently this species is considered vulnerable has been placed on the IUCN Red List. Our dream sandbank called Nakupenda (in Swahili means I LOVE YOU), a place where it has a very white sand, limpid and crystalline water. The language of the white sands and their alternative sea appear and disappear.

What to expect

We start our trip to Prison Island at 09:30 from Stonetown. While you are on the island you will be able to observe and watch the giant turtles, swim, sunbathe and snorkel. After the Prison Island we head to our beautiful natural Sandbank called Nakupenda. After taking pictures of this amazing Spot you will enjoy your fresh Seafood BBQ with cold drinks and seasonal fruits on the Sandbank. You will be able to snorkel in the crystalline water full of colored corals and tropical fish and relax on the sandbank before you riding our motorboat or sailing back to Stone town.
