Small-Group 5-Night Lhasa Tour: Train from Beijing

Day 1: Take a train to Lhasa from Beijing

1. Beijing West Railway Station
   Pass by
   Your tour starts from the Beijing West Station. You need hold your passport and Tibet Travel Permit to ticket window where you will pick you up your train ticket. When entering the station, you need to present your passport, China Visa, Tibet Travel Permit and train ticket to the conductor. Then start to enjoy the memorable trip. The train departs at 20:00. (The train might depart from Beijing in the afternoon if transfer train ticket is purchased.) Notes: Travel date from Apr.1 to Oct.10, clients need accept that tour operator will buy transfer train tickets: Beijing - Xining ticket and then Xining - Lhasa ticket because direct train ticket from Beijing to Lhasa is impossible to buy during this period.
   
   On Day 1, depart from Beijing West Train Station. Please make sure you arrive at Beijing West Train Station in advance to have enough time to pick up the train ticket and board the train.
   Direct train ticket from Beijing to Lhasa: at 8:00pm
   Transfer train ticket from Beijing to Xining and then Xining to Lhasa: 1:05pm or 4:03pm or 8:00pm
   On Day 3, at Lhasa Railway Station, tour guide will hold pickup board to pick up clients.
   On Day 4, 5, 6, clients will be picked up from hotel.

Day 2: On the Train to Lhasa

1. The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau Wild Zoo

   Today, on the first full-day, you will pass through two important provincial capitals in northwest China: Lanzhou and Xining. Traveling along on the train, you will be able to enjoy the incredible scenery of the countries in Northwest China.

Day 3: Lhasa Arrival

   Today, you will witness the most beautiful scenic view on the Qinghai Tibet Train. After arrival, your tour guide will meet you at the train station in Lhasa.

Day 4: Lhasa (B,D)

1. Potala Palace

   Today's tour will first bring you to the Potala Palace which is the winter palace of the Dalai lama. It was put to use since the 7th Century by the 33rd great king of Tibet. The most valuable collections of Potala Palace are the gilded burial stupas of former Dalai Lamas and meditation Cave of the 33rd great king of Tibet.
2. Jokhang Temple

   Then after lunch, tourists head to Jokhang temple which was founded by the 33rd great king of Tibet in the 7th century. Inside you can see the statue of Buddha Sakyamuni at the age of twelve. Outside, you can see pilgrims making prostrating in front of Jokhang Temple.
3. Barkhor Street

   Around the temple is Barkhor street, where you can do kora (a religious circle of a building or mountain) with pilgrims and locals, and explore the old market. Besides, We can taste Tibetan tea with locals in tea house; The welcome dinner will also be arranged accordingly.

Day 5: Lhasa (B)

1. Drepung Monastery (Zhebang Si)

   In the morning ,you are going to visit Drepung monastery which is one of the “great three” Gelug monasteries of Tibet, founded in 1416 by Jamyang choge, one of the Tsongkhapa’s main disciples. You can visit biggest monastery kitchen inside the monastery and enjoy Buddhist Sculpture Carving workshop near Drepung.
2. Sera Monastery

   In the Afternoon, Tourists will visit Sera Monastery which is another one of the “great three” Gelug monasteries of Tibet. The hot attraction is the Monks debate at around 3 - 5 in the afternoon. In addition, you can tour the Tibetan religious scripture printing house; inside the monastery, you can see three sand Mandalas and colorful Rock Painting of Buddha.

Day 6: Departure from Lhasa (B)

   After eating breakfast, you will be transferred to the train station or the airport if you need.

• Not recommended for pregnant travelers
• Not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health
• Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
• Travelers are required to provide photocopy of passports and China L visas in advance
• Please note that you will only be allowed to enter Tibet with a Tibet travel permit. Your local tour operator will help you apply for a Tibet permit (usually need at least 12 days), but be sure you have a passport which is valid for at least 6 months.
• A copy of your Tibet travel permit will be sent to you in advance. When entering into Beijing West Train Station, please present your Tibet travel permit, train ticket, passport, and Chinese visa to the conductor.
• Once train ticket from Beijing to Lhasa is booked, it can not be canceled by tour supplier. If customers cancel the tour after train ticket has been booked, they will be charged the cost of train ticket.
• A valid passport and China L Visa used to apply for Tibet Permit are required on the travelling period
• Price is based on double occupancy. Single room supplement is subject to availability and additional charge
• In June, July, or August, the hard or soft sleeper train tickets are difficult to purchase, tour supplier will recommend some transfer trains for choosing. Both sides will choose the better one.
