Your exciting surfing journey begins with a warm welcome at Sun Diving Centre in Unawatuna. Here, you will meet your professional instructor, get fitted with a UV rash guard, and receive your beginner-friendly soft-top surfboard. Once geared up, we provide a short, comfortable transfer to nearby surfing Beach. We choose Dewata specifically because its gentle, rolling waves and soft sandy seabed create a safe, forgiving environment for first-time surfers to learn without fear of reefs or rocks.
Before hitting the waves, your instructor leads an engaging 15-minute dry-land training session on the beach. You will learn essential ocean safety rules, how to read incoming swells, efficient paddling techniques, and the critical step-by-step "pop-up" movement needed to transition from your stomach to your feet.
Next comes the best part! For a full 1.5 hours, your dedicated instructor will stay right by your side in the water. They will guide your board into position, give you a helpful push to match the wave’s momentum, and provide instant feedback on your stance to help you stand up. Afterward, we relax with complimentary water and return to the dive centre.
