Assin Manso Slave River was the final place where our ancestors took their last bath on African soil before being marched onward to the slave castles and dungeons, where they were held captive and prepared for shipment to the so called New World. This deeply moving experience offers a unique opportunity to visit the slave castles, dungeons, and the sacred Slave River that formed part of the brutal system used to enslave Africans and send them into the unknown. More importantly, it gives us the chance to reconnect, reflect, and pay our respects to those who endured this inhumane enterprise with strength and resilience.

This gives us the opportunity to reconnect with our ancestors. This is where our Ancestors had their last bath before leaving the continent and we will have our first bath in the same river as a symbol of reconnecting with them.
This can be a very emotional experience and after paying our respects.
The Emancipation day durbar together with the visit to the slave river as well as laying of wreaths at the graves of returnees are thus held annually on August 1 to commemorate and climax the celebrations.
