Overview
Embark on a day trip from Colombo to Kandy. Depart Colombo for the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, where you can watch elephants being fed and bathed, explore the grounds, and browse nearby stalls for souvenirs and local crafts. Continue to Kandy to visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and the Kandy Tea Museum, enjoy a traditional Sri Lankan lunch, and finish with a tea-tasting experience.
Continue to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, a UNESCO World Heritage site housing a sacred relic of the Buddha. Explore the temple complex, observe daily rituals if possible, and visit the on-site museum to learn more about its history. After lunch, stop by a shop showcasing traditional Kandyan wood carvings and, if time allows, visit a gem museum.
Next, visit the Kandy Tea Museum in the former British Tea Factory. Enjoy a guided tour exploring Sri Lanka’s tea history, view vintage machinery and artifacts, and finish with a traditional tea tasting featuring a variety of Ceylon teas.
