What to expect

New Market
30m

Built in 1874, New Market is one of Kolkata’s oldest and busiest marketplaces, lined with historic shopfronts, spice stalls, and local snack counters popular with residents for generations.

Stroll through the narrow lanes as your guide introduces you to everyday Kolkata street favorites and explains how locals shop for ingredients and snacks here.

Typical tastings may include Dahi Papdi Chaat, Shinghara (Bengali samosa), Puchkas (Kolkata-style pani puri), Jhaal Muri and Bhel Puri, along with a stop for hot local chai or tea. Tastings may vary based on availability and guest preferences, but the focus is always on safe, hygienic, and authentic flavors.
30m

Hidden inside New Market, Nahoum & Sons is a legendary Jewish bakery founded in 1902 by a Baghdadi Jewish family.

Step inside to see the original teakwood counters, glass display cases, and old-world décor that have changed little over the decades.

Here you sample a selection of traditional bakes (such as cakes, biscuits, or pastries) while your guide shares stories about Kolkata’s once-thriving Jewish community and how their recipes became part of the city’s culinary identity.
30m

Continue on foot through nearby grocery and vegetable markets to get a close look at seasonal produce, spices, and everyday ingredients used in Bengali home cooking.

As you walk, you will pass by two of Kolkata’s legendary Mughlai restaurants—Nizam’s and Aminia—famous for their kebabs and biryani and their influence on the city’s rich Mughlai food tradition.

Your guide will point out key ingredients, explain how they are used in local dishes, and share tips on what to look for if you wish to return and dine independently later.
Park Street
1h

Travel to Park Street, Kolkata’s historic dining and nightlife avenue known for its classic restaurants, cafés, and bakeries.

Walk along this lively boulevard and learn how it became the city’s go-to district for eating out, from colonial clubs to modern eateries.

Here you stop at the famous Kusum Rolls (or a similar trusted outlet) to taste the iconic Kolkata Kathi Roll—a flaky paratha-style flatbread wrapped around spiced fillings such as egg, paneer, or kebab. Vegetarian options are available, and spice levels can usually be adjusted on request.
30m

Finish your tour at Balaram Mullick & Radharaman Mullick, one of Kolkata’s most respected sweetmakers.

In this bright, modern mithai shop you learn about the importance of sweets in Bengali culture, from everyday treats to festive offerings.

Sample Sandesh, a traditional Bengali sweet made from fresh cottage cheese (chhena), known for its light, delicate texture and subtle flavors, along with a selection of other regional sweets when available. This sweet ending is a relaxed moment to recap the experience, ask final questions, and get recommendations for the rest of your stay.
