Archaeological Excursion of Tierradentro and San Agustín in 3 days

Day 1: Popayan to Earth inside.

   We will pick you up at 7:00 in the morning at your hotel in Popayan to start this excursion. We will leave for Tierradentro National Archaeological Park, one of the most important archaeological sites in Colombia.

   We will make a short stop to take pictures in the amazing valley of the frailejones (unique plant of the Andean ecosystem). Then, we will continue our tour for about an hour until we reach the charming village of Inzá.
3. Inza

   In the village of Inza we will enjoy a delicious breakfast.

   We will walk for about an hour until we reach the great pyramid of Inza and its underground caves from here we will observe great landscapes on the ullucos river.

   Then we will arrive at the archaeological park full of anthropological and historical wealth. We will take a tour of the park, where we will observe vestiges of three historical periods: pre-Hispanic, colonial and republican. We will walk among pyramids and underground graves called hypogea, which were dug directly into the volcanic rock. We will admire the decorations of the burial chambers, some of which reach up to 8 meters deep. In addition, we will learn the history of the brave indigenous Paeces, who inhabited this territory before the arrival of the Spanish.
   These peoples allied with their neighbors to defend their lands. Would they be the builders of these graves? We'll find out together! After visiting the hypogea, we will climb to the surface to observe the stone statues shaped like animals representing indigenous idols. We will also visit the park museum, where objects found during excavations are displayed.
6. 40m
   We will pause to enjoy a delicious lunch.
7. 30m
   In the afternoon, we will explore vestiges of the colonial era by visiting the church of San Andrés de Pisimbalá, a curious stone structure with a thatched roof.

Day 2: From inland to St. Augustine.

   In the hotel you will enjoy a delicious breakfast to get ready and leave at 8:00 AM heading for San Agustin, during the journey we will have time to stop for lunch.
2. San Agustin
   Pass by
   We will arrive at the hotel "los Andaquies" or similar.
   In the afternoon there will be free time to visit the beautiful colorful village of San Agustin.

Day 3: From San Agustin to Popayan (End of tour).

   Breakfast and get ready for this day visit the San Agustin museum and archaeological park at 8:00 AM.
2. Estrecho Del Magdalena
   1h · Admission ticket not included
   We will recharge with a delicious homemade lunch and then visit the Strait of Magdalena.
3. Parque Arqueologico Alto de los Idolos
   2h · Admission ticket not included
   We will head to the high archaeological park of idols.
4. Parque Arqueologico Alto de los Idolos
   Pass by
   At around 4:00 PM we will begin the return to Popayan. Estimated arrival time 7:00PM (end of tour).

Pickup details

The tour will be held with a minimum of 2 people and starts with the pick-up of the travelers from their hotel or from an agreed meeting point in Popayan. One day before, we will confirm via WhatsApp or email the details of the guide, the vehicle and the exact departure time. To ensure punctuality, we recommend being ready 5 minutes before the scheduled time.

Our vehicles have carry-on luggage space; if more capacity is required, it is important to inform in advance.
