Overview

The combination of Sirimon route starting from the west of Mount Kenya National Park passing through the driest side of the mountain. On this ascent, trekkers encounter with giant trees, rocky terrain and the charming Mackinders Valley before descending via the Chogoria route. On descending Chogoria spotting the characteristic lush bamboo zone and the highland forests while gazing at the magnificent Gorges Valley, waterfalls and tarns.

What to expect

Day 1: Nairobi - Nanyuki

    In the morning, you will be picked at the airport/ hotel then depart Nairobi accompanied by our mountain guide arriving at Nanyuki in time for lunch. For the rest of the afternoon, you will spend time in Nanyuki acclimatizing and walking along the Mount Kenya region visiting the Mau mau Caves, where freedom fighters used to hide during the 2nd world war. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at a hotel in Nanyuki.
Day 2: Nanyuki-old moses hut

    After early morning breakfast, you will prepare to drive to the Sirimon Park Gate where you begin your first five hours of hiking up to the Old Moses hut. This camp stop is 3,330 meters above sea level. Here you will enjoy the rest of your day, have lunch. Dinner and overnight at the Old Moses hut.
Day 3: Old moses hut -shipton hut

    You will rise early in the morning, have breakfast and then hike from the Old Moses hut through Mackinder Valley, to Shipton hut (4,200m). Here you will explore the scenic beauty and nature that surrounds this area as you view the beautiful topography of the valley. You will enjoy your lunch and dinner meals and your overnight stay at Shipton hut.
Day 4: Shipton point-lenana-mintos hut-chogoria hut

    You will wake up very early in the morning, around 0230 hours, and hike to Point Lenana (4,985m). On a clear day, you will experience a breathtaking African sunrise and be able to see Mt. Kilimanjaro to the south, Mt. Elgon to the west, and the Indian Ocean to the east. After Point Lenana, you will descend to Mintos (4,250m) where you will have breakfast, and then continue your hike to Road-head where you will stop for lunch. After lunch, you will hike to Chogoria hut where you will stop for dinner and your overnight stay.
Day 5: Chogoria hut- Nairobi

    After breakfast, you will hike to Chogoria Gate and then on to Chogoria Town for lunch and your transfer back to Nairobi. You will arrive back in Nairobi in the late afternoon having conquered Mt. Kenya!. You will be dropped off at the airport/ hotel. Please NOTE that the last 32km stretch from Chogoria camp to the park gate can be walked and from there a van will take you the rest of the way. The cost for the ride can be shared between the available clients and can be arranged by the guide {the cost is not included in the package.)
