Overview

***Please note that in the summer months to ensure you have the most comfortable experience we spend one night in the Berber style camp, start our excursion to the nomads and surrounding area a bit later in the morning and stay the second night in a hotel at the edge of the dunes (Riad Chebbi or similar). We do this so that you have access to aircon and other hotel comforts in the heat of the summer which can sometimes be well over 40°C (100°F)***

Our goal is to make sure that every experience we provide is unique and memorable for each of our travelers. We provide thoughtful excursions that are customizable to your interests. We are from Morocco and, specifically, from the desert so we are able to provide you with meaningful information about the culture and history of the areas we travel through and visit.

What to expect

Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Ben Haddou – Boumalne Dades
  1. High Atlas Mountains

    The excursion begins with a pick up from your accommodation or and agreed upon meeting point in Marrakech. We then begin our journey from Marrakech to Boumalne Dades by heading into the High Atlas Mountains.
  2. Tizi n Tichka

    We will arrive at the Tizi N'Tichka pass with vast views overlooking the mountains before continuing on to the traditional High Atlas Berber villages.
  3. Ait Ben Haddou

    Then we continue on to visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou, where we will have lunch and an optional tour of the kasbah.
  4. Boumalne Dades

    We will continue into the valley and on to Boumalne Dades where you will have your accommodations for the first night.
Day 2: Boumalne Dades – Todra Gorges – Arfoud – Dunes of Merzouga

    After enjoying breakfast in Boumalne Dades, we will depart on our way to Erg Chebbi in the Sahara desert at Merzouga. Our travel will take us through a number of Berber Villages as we make our way to the gorges at Todra.

    Optionally, we can stop in Erfoud, a city known for its fossils.
  3. Merzouga

    We will continue on to Merzouga, where we will find the camels that will take us on an adventure through the Erg Chebbi sand dunes.

    When we reach the camp we can climb the sand dunes for to watch the sunset of the sea of sand. Then we will have dinner and Moroccan tea in the authentic Berber camp with traditional drums and music around a fire. We will spend the second night of your excursion in Berber tents at the camp.
Day 3: Merzouga: Visit with the Nomads
  1. Merzouga Desert

    After waking early to watch the sunrise over the sand dunes (optional) and enjoying breakfast, we will venture into the desert to meet and have tea with a local nomadic (Berber) family. Other optional activities include visiting the deserted village and mines of Mfis, experiencing the Gnaoua music of the region in Khemliya, and adding on a quad bike experience in the dunes.
Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani – Agdz – Ouarzazate – Marrakech
  1. Rissani
    30m
    After waking early to watch the sunrise over the sand dunes (optional) and enjoying breakfast, we will return to Merzouga by camel. From Merzouga we will make our way to the small city of Rissani, known for its spices and shopping.
  2. Agdz

    From Rissani we continue to Agdz where we can stop for coffee/tea or lunch depending on the timing and your party's discretion.
  3. Ouarzazate

    From Agdz we head back towards the High Atlas Mountains. If we did not have lunch earlier we will break for lunch here before we begin making our way back to Marrakech.

Pickup details

This excursion includes pick-up in Marrakech. We do our very best to meet you at your hotel or Riad. In some cases your accommodation may not be accessible by our vehicle, in which case we will coordinate with you for a convenient location to meet. Please make sure to provide us with a working phone number that has WhatsApp enabled to ensure a smooth pickup.
