Overview

---

Raku is one of the oldest and most visually dramatic firing techniques in ceramics — and one of the rare methods where the final result is shaped as much by chance as by skill. Unlike conventional pottery classes, this experience takes you through the entire creative arc: from raw clay to a finished, glazed object shaped by your own hands and marked by fire.

The studio near Padenghe sul Garda is a working artist's space, not a tourist workshop. Sessions are kept small, allowing for close guidance and genuine creative engagement at every stage. No prior experience is needed — the process is accessible to anyone, and the results are always personal.

What guests take away is not just a ceramic piece, but something made entirely by them, fired using a centuries-old Japanese method that leaves patterns no two pieces share. Once complete, the work is shipped directly to their home — a lasting reminder of an afternoon spent making something by hand in a quiet corner of northern Italy.

What's included

  • All tools and materials and protective apron
  • Two hours of guided clay modelling
  • Firing, glazing and shipping are arranged directly with the studio and involve an extra cost.

What to expect

There is something immediate about working with clay. The moment your hands press into the material — still cool, still soft — the mind follows. The studio near Padenghe sul Garda is a calm, creative space where that process begins simply: with earth, water, and a willingness to shape something from nothing.

Over two hours, you will learn to knead, prepare, and model clay using a range of hand-building techniques, guided through each stage at a relaxed pace. No previous experience is needed — the focus is on touch, on form, and on the slow satisfaction of making something entirely your own.

Once your piece is formed, you will choose the glazes and colours for the finishing. The studio takes care of the rest after your visit: a first firing at 980°, glazing, and a second firing using the Raku method — an ancient Japanese technique where smoke and flame leave marks that cannot be planned or repeated. Your finished piece will be shipped to your address, or collected in person if you are based locally. Firing, glazing and shipping are arranged directly with the studio and involve an extra cost.
