The Taj Mahal, originally the Rauza-i-munawwara is an ivory-white marble mausoleum on the bank of the river Yamuna in the Indian city of Agra. It was built in 1632 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan to house the tomb of his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal, it also houses the tomb of Shah Jahan himself.

He was later also made a minister and a trusted treasurer in Akbar's court. It was as a tribute to him, that Nur Jahan built the mausoleum after his death.
