Your private guide and driver will meet you at your hotel, villa, or directly at the cruise ship port. Travel in comfort in an air-conditioned vehicle as your guide introduces you to the cultural and historical context of western Crete.
Arriving in the tranquil Akrotiri Peninsula, you’ll explore the Agia Triada Tzagarolon Monastery, one of the most important religious landmarks of Crete. Built in the 17th century by Venetian-Cretan monks, the monastery showcases impressive architecture with Renaissance and Orthodox influences.
Inside the serene complex, you’ll see:
The main cathedral with frescoes and a marble iconostasis
A charming inner courtyard and old olive press
A small museum with religious artifacts
After the visit, you’ll be welcomed into the monastery’s wine cellar and shop for an authentic tasting. Sample:
5 organic wines made on-site
Local rusks, cold-pressed olive oil, sea salt, and oregano
This is a unique chance to enjoy Cretan monastic gastronomy in a peaceful and spiritual setting.
Next, you’ll stop at Venizelos Graves, located on a pine-covered hill overlooking Chania. This is the resting place of Eleftherios Venizelos and his son Sofoklis — two of Greece’s most influential political leaders.
Besides the historical importance, this site offers:
• Breathtaking panoramic views of Chania and the White Mountains
• A moment of reflection in a tranquil garden
• Optional coffee stop at a nearby café with a view (if desired)
