Memphis and Sakkara

Then you will be driven to visit the ancient capital city of Memphis located about 24 kilometers south of Cairo. Memphis which was founded by King Menes, and was the capital of Egypt during the Old Kingdom. It was considered to be a center of rule and culture for over 3,000 years and was the first capital of Egypt. Though little remains of this pharaonic city, the open air museum here is worth a visit. See the huge fallen image of Ramesses II, which is 16 meters high and the great Alabaster Sphinx of Queen Hatshepsut at the museum.

Both these churches were built into the walls of the Babylon Fortress and their remains could be Cairo’s oldest structures. Visit the Church of St Sergius next before driving back to your hotel.
