On this 3-day Great Traverse of Karawanks Ridge hiking tour, you’ll experience the natural beauty of one of Europe’s lesser-known mountain ranges, stretching across Slovenia, Austria, and Italy. Over three days, you’ll hike through scenic ridges, alpine pastures, and charming mountain huts.
Day 1 begins with a hike above the village of Dovje, climbing to Dovška baba for stunning views of Triglav and the Julian Alps. From there, you’ll continue along ridges and grassy slopes, passing by the famous Golica peak before reaching Koča na Golici hut for the night.
Day 2 takes you over Belska Planina and Potoški Stol, with a summit ascent to Stol, the highest peak in the Karawanks at 2236 meters. You’ll enjoy breathtaking views of Slovenia and Austria before descending to Prešeren's Hut, where you’ll stay for the night.
On Day 3, the final day offers a scenic descent, passing Finžgarjeva skala and visiting the archaeological site of Ajdna.
Along the way, you'll learn about local history, alpine traditions, and the rich biodiversity of the Karawanks. Expect beautiful panoramas, peaceful mountain paths, and the sense of accomplishment that comes with summiting high peaks.
