Overview

Discover the beauty of Oulanka National Park on a guided hike along the famous Pieni Karhunkierros (Little Bear’s Trail), one of Finland’s most scenic day trails. Located in the southern part of the park, the route follows landscapes shaped by the Kitkajoki River, featuring roaring rapids, steep cliffs, suspension bridges, and peaceful old-growth forests.

Little Bear’s Trail follows parts of its big brother, the Karhunkierros Trail, leading you to some of the park’s most iconic viewpoints. Your local guide shares stories about northern nature, wildlife, and life in the Finnish outdoors while you enjoy breathtaking scenery and great photo opportunities.

The hike is taken at a relaxed pace with time to admire the rapids, cliffs, and forest landscapes. Ideal for nature lovers, photographers, and active travelers wanting to experience one of Finland’s most famous national park trails in a meaningful way.

The 9-metre high Jyrävä is a massive waterfall in Kuusamo. It is located in the Oulanka National Park, in the lower reaches of the River Kitkajoki. The river is surrounded by rugged rock walls, and the water squeezes through a narrow "chute" in the bedrock and into a pool below. The fall was named after its sound, for the rumbling can be heard from great distance (rumbling is "jyrinä" in Finnish). Out of all the waterfalls in Finland, Jyrävä has one of the biggest flow rates, and there is plenty of water even after the spring floods.
